The Cell Cycle Flashcards
Interphase
Cell grows and the number of organelles increases. DNA in the nucleus is copied
G1 Phase
Grows and develops
Synthesis (S)
The cell duplicates its genetic material
G2 Phase
Nucleus is well defined, chromosomes condense into chromatids in preparation for cell division, centrosome is replicated
G1 Checkpoint
verifies that the cell has grown to the correct size
synthesised enough protein for DNA replication
checks if the DNA has been damaged during mitosis
G2 Checkpoint
ensures that DNA has replicated properly in the S phase
checks the cell has enough resources for mitosis
Metaphase (M) Checkpoint
checks the formation of the spindle fibres
checks if the chromosomes are lined up in the correct location
G0
a stage of the cell cycle where cells are not actively dividing or preparing to divide
