depression and unrest 1919-21

A

between end of ww1 and when harding took power there had been a short sharp depression , unemployment rose , lots of social discontent ; protests , riots , strikes. farmers had produced wheat with machines in war so less farmers need but now over producing , prices fell and many farmers went bankrupt. laissez faire policy meant gov didnt intervene , luckily depression sorted itself out , which would have big impact on government thinking
