The long profile is what
A
Shows the changes in the height of the river from source to mouth and how the slope of the river changes as it makes this journey

What is the Channel
A
The bed and banks within which the river flows (think of it as the container which carries the water)

What is a valley
A
The extensive area of land on either side of the channel.

What is the upper course
A
The river is mainly eroding with lots of abrasion, attrition and hydraulic action. Much of this erosion is downward

What is the middle course
A
The river is still eroding but it will be mainly be lateral (sideways)

What is the lower course
A
Erosion has become less important and deposition will be dominate.
