why was the church so powerful in 1520s?
-was part of the massive international church under authority of the pope in rome

THomas Wolsey was Henry viii’s chief minister for 15 years aswell as being archbishop of york and cardinal whilst serving the king
how did the church boost the monarchs authority
under concepts like ‘the great chain of being’ which implied society had a hierarchy and everyone should know their place. God would punish anyone that rebelled against the king(treason)
