The Circulatory System Flashcards
(14 cards)
How does blood transport around the body?
Through the Circulatory System
What is the circulatory system made up of?
1.Heart
2.Blood
3.Blood Vessels
The circulatory system transports
1.Nutrients
2.Gasses
3.Wastes
4. Other Substances
The heart characteristic
- Is made up of muscle cells that constantly contracts and relax.
2.Contractions pump blood from the heart to the rest of the body(Contracts blood leaves the heart) - When heart relaxes blood from the rest of the body enters the heart (relax blood enters heart)
How many chambers does the heart have?
4 chambers, 2 upper and 2 lower
Which chamber does the blood LEAVE the body?
It leaves from the lower chamber called ventricles
Which chamber does the blood ENTER the body?
Blood leaves through the upper 2 chambers, called artia
Vessels
Tiny tubes that help blood travel around the body.
What are the 3 types of Vessels?
- Artery
2.Vein
3.Capillary
Arteries
Carry blood away from the heart
Veins
Transport blood that contains carbon dioxide back to the heart,
Transports blood that is oxygen rich from the lung to heart.
Capillaries
Very tiny vessels that enable oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nutrients to move between circulatory system and entire body. It is a site of Exchange
Animals Circulatory system
Different animals have different circulatory systems.
