Many poorer countries were once taken over by European countries. The Europeans took many raw materials from countries and left them with nothing therefore putting them behind in resources.

Some countries have difficult climates and find it hard to grow crops to feed their population or export for a profit.

Some countries are in war and so people can not work and they have to work on recovery.

Some countries suffer from having a corrupt government who may keep money to themselves.
How does debt relate to the Development Gap?
Due to colonialism, countries have to borrow money from richer nations. This leads to crippling debt because of interest.
How does location associate with the Development Gap?
Due to geographical location, many countries suffer from natural disasters and then have to focus on recovery.
