Who were the plains Indians?
Many different American Indian tribes made up the people know as the Plains Indians
What was the Plain Indian society
Many different tribes lived on the great plains. Each tribe was made up of different bands. Bands could b several hundred people or just 20 or 30 people.
What was the warrior brotherhood?
As well as bands and the tribal council, Plains Indians Also had warrior Brotherhoods. There were several different brotherhoods within a tribe and young men joined after providing their bravery and skill in fighting with other tribes.
Women and Plains Indian society
Women could not be a chiefs and a successful man could have more than on wife in the Plains Indians society. Women were responsible for feeding and clothing their families and for their possessions.
What was the climate like on the Great Plains?
Great Plains had very hot summers and very cold winters. the Plains are also very dry with little surface water (streams and rivers).
What did the Plains Indians mostly depend on?
Buffalo
What are Tipis?
Key word
Tent-like homes of Plains Indian Families, made of animal hide stretched over wooden poles. The strong, flexible pyramid shape of tipi meant it could stand up to strong winds.
