what are the main four bodily levels that need to be controlled?
- Ion content
- Water content
- Sugar content
- Temperature
what is Ion content regulated by?
The kidneys control Ion , if there is to much in the blood the kidneys will remove it through sweat or urine
what ways is water lost from the body?
Sweat, breath and urine
what do drugs do?
Drugs change your body’s chemistry and can often lead to symptoms after withdrawal as the body struggles to function without it
what are performance enhancing drugs?
Performance enhancing drugs are used in sports to increase an athletes chance of winning
why are people for performance drugs?
- Athletes have the right to make their own decision about whether taking drugs is worth the risk or not
- Drug free sport isn’t fair anyway as different athletes have access to better training, coaches and equipment
why are people against performance enhancing drugs?
- It is unfair if people gain advantages through drugs instead of training
- There are serious health risks with them
what are statins?
Statins are prescribed drugs used to lower the risk of heart and circulatory diseases
what is cannabis?
Cannabis is an illegal drug to give a ‘high’ but may possibly cause mental health issues
what are the three main stages of drug testing?
1.Tested on human cells and tissues
2.Testing on live animals
3. Clinical trails
(All of this only happens if the stages are successful)
what is thalidomide?
Thalidomide was meant to be a sleeping pill but was found effective in morning sickness as well but as it hadn’t been tested they did not realise that it caused missing limbs in babies and over half born with it died
what problems can smoking cause?
- Causes disease of the heart, blood vessels and lungs
- Cancer
- Addiction
what problems does alcohol cause?
- Slows down bodily reactions
- Impaired judgement
- Liver disease and Brain damage
- Addiction
