Voltaire

A

Argued that the world is like a clock, and runs on its own (deism). Against the Catholic church. Wrote the novel Candid, where someone goes on a journey and more and more horrors happen. He said that you should listen to reason and accept the world.

A

Horrible person. Five children, sent them to orphanages. Said the state of nature is good and ideal, and that society and government keeps us from being happy. Democracy is best.
He grows insane.
