A
visible, intended effects of a policy. For example, married person’s tax benefits had a direct effect on the numbers of cohabiting couples choosing to get married.

A
things that happen that are not necessarily expected. For example, privatising healthcare for the elderly (pay for care); this indirectly affects families by placing the burden of care on women and a financial strain on families
