Why was the plan likely to be unsuccessful from 1951 until towards the end of 1952?
The 5th Five Year Plan wasn’t even drafted until the end of 1952 - had to start without a plan.
What were the main features?
Aimed to continue increasing industrial growth, but at a slower more realistic rate.
How could the Government’s spending helped/ hindered achieving aims of 5th FYP?
Cold War - increased military spending - growth in other areas less impressive.
Large amounts of money spent on grandiose projects e.g. VOLGA DON CANAL which was decorated with states of Stalin - little economic value.
Successes of 5th FYP?
Performance of industry in immediate post - war period = impressive.
1948 onwards - living standards increased.
Price reductions eased.
From 1952 - wages for urban workers reached level of 1928.
Failures of 5th FYP?
Consumer goods neglected.
