-rising crushed by the royal army however the money was not collected
Cornish Rebellion
1497
-taxation to fund defense against threat from the north- James IV and Perkin Warbeck
-reached 15,000 with cross-class solidarity and approached london
-weren’t against the king but rather ‘evil counselors’
-henry assembled an army of 25,000 which crushed the force at blackheath
-not a serious challenge
Lambert Simnel
-claimed to be the Earl of Warwick
-gained support from the Yorkist stronghold in Oxford, Ireland where he was crowned, and Margret of Burgandy who sent money and men
-parading the real earl in london did not stop the rebellion gaining support, marching south with some 8000 men and Henry was forced into battle at Stoke
-incredibly dangerous for henry, shows vulnerability and therefore a threat
Warbeck
-claimed to be Richard Duke of York, difficult for Henry to dispute
-won support in Irekand and France, undermined by Etaples
-support from margret, henry cut off cloth trade
-support from HRE although lacked funds to help
-welcomed in Scotland but later abandoned
-failed to capitalise on the cornish rebellion
-persuaded to give himself up and later executed after attempting to plot with the earl of Warwick
Edmund de la Pole
-appeared loyal but dissatisfied with henry refusing to make him Duke of Suffolk
-arguably had a stronger claim, became more of a threat with the death of Arthur and Elizabeth
-Henry wasn’t secure until 1506 when Burgundy was forced to hand him over to Henry
