A

He goes to his cousin Daisys for dinner and meets her and her problematic husband Nick, as well as their friend Jordan Baker who tells him about Nick’s mistress.
Tension in Daisy+ Tom’s marriage.

A

Nick attends party at Myrtle’s apartment in New York, full of drugs, alcohol and sex, as well as a lustful feud between Myrtle and Tom.

What key events happen in Chapter 4?

A

Gatsby takes Nick to lunch in the cit, an elaborate ploy for Gatsby to see Daisy again. Nick learns more about Gatsby in the chapter, new questions arise about the source of Gatsby’s wealth. We meet Meyer Wolfsheim. Nick he saw Gatsby stretching his arms to the water, realizes green light he saw was Daisy’s dock.

A

Gatsby startles Nick + hatches plan to see Daisy. Gatsby and Daisy meet again, beautiful descriptions, pathetic fallacy of the rain, romance reignites awkwardly. We see a different side to Gatsby.

What key events happen in Chapter 6?

A

We get more info about Gatsby’s background, rumours and reporters around him. Nick goes to Gatsby’s house, Tom and some friends are there who insincerely invite Gatsby and Nick to dinner, commentary on social class + norms.
Party at Gatsby’s few weeks later, Daisy + Tom attend, she is unhappy and wants to be with Gatsby.
Gatsby tells Nick he loves her and wants her to leave him.

What key event happens in Chapter 7?

A

Hottest day of the year, pathetic fallacy. They all meet at Daisy’s house, there is great tension. They all go to the city where everything is exposed about their relationship to Tom.
Driving back to Long Island, Nick, Tom, and Jordan discover some has been hit by an automobile. We learn that it is Myrtle. Nick realises it was Gatsby’s car, goes to find him, finds out Daisy was driving.

What happens in Chapter 8?

A

Gatsby, tells Nick about courting Daisy in Louisville, that he loved her for her youth and vitality, idolized her social position, wealth, and popularity. Nick says goodbye to Gatsby, with one last positive statement.
Wilson looks for Gatsby thinking he killed Myrtle +shoots him dead in his pool then commits suicide. Nick finds Gatsby dead later on.

What happens in Chapter 9?

A

Nick describes events of funeral. Reporters, journalists, and gossipmongers descend on the mansion. Nick tries to hold a large funeral for him, but all of Gatsby’s former friends and acquaintances have disappeared. We meet Gatsby’s dad and see yet another side to him.
Nick decides to move back to the Midwest. He breaks off his relationship with Jordan.
