Q

To conquer land, what sort of adaptations did early land plants have to developed?

Q

Which of the following statements correctly distinguish non vascular and vascular plants?
1. No vascular plants lack vascular tissue; vascular plants have specialized tissue for conducting water and nutrients within the plant.
2. Non vascular plants lack true roots, stems and leaves; vascular plants have true roots, stems, and leaves.
3. Vascular plants are divided into seeded and seedless plants with club moss and ferns being examples of seeded plants; non vascular plants are the liverworts, true mosses, and hornworts.
4. Both 1 and 2

Q

Distinguish between the sporophyte and the gametophyte generation in seedless vascular plants, making sure to discuss structure and ploidy.

A

Diploid sporophyte alternates w/ haploid gametophyte phase. Diploid sporophyte is dominant phase while gametophyte is inconspicuous & the independent organism. Seedless reproduce through unicellular haploid spores dispersed through the air. Spores contain vascular tissue & do not produce flowers or seeds. Depend on water during fertilization as sperm swim on layers of moisture to reach an egg.
