The Haemopoetic System Flashcards
(18 cards)
What is it called when there is variation in the size of erythrocytes?
Anisocytosis
What is it called when there is variation in shape of erythrocytes?
Poikilocytosis
What is a stomatocyte?
When the central pillar is elliptical
What is target cell?
Central pigmented material, surrounded by clear unpigmented area and the outside area has a pigmentation {bull’s eye}
What is leptocyte
Wafer cell with decreased Hb content and increased SA to volume ratio due to many underlying causes
Drepanocyte
Crescent shaped erythrocyte
Dacrocyte
Tear drop shaped erythrocyte
Another name of acanthocyte
Spur cell
Echinocyte
Burr cell, numerous small evenly spaced short projections on it’s surface
What are those structures called which are the reminants of nucleus in erythrocyte?
Howell jolly boies
Hein’z bodies
Refractile bodies, which are clumps of denatured Hb inside the red blood cells
Basophillic stipuling?
Bluish stain or precipitate in cytoplasm. It is seen due to remnants of rna or immature erythrocytes
When are dohle bodies seen?
During toxic, neutrophillic inflammation
Where is hepatozoan canis seen?
Inside neutrophils
What is meant by PCV=40 %
It means after the centrifugation and separation of different layers in blood, the packed cell volume is 40 %/ 40 ml.
And 60 percent / ml is plasma
If PCV is greater than 60 percent, it is called polycythemia which can be relative or actual
How is Hb concentration measured?
Saheli’s haemoglobinometer /
spectrophotometer
What is the ratio of Hb is to PCV in average?
Hb is 1/3 of PCV.
What is oligocythemia?
Decrease in the quantity of erythrocytes in the peripheral blood.
This can be relative/ absolute
