the heart channel Flashcards
(20 cards)
where is the heart channel?
it runs along the inner (medial) aspect of the arm from the armpit (axilla) to the little finger
name the heart channels anatomical landmarks
humerus radius ulna radial side ulna side
name the minor anatomical landmarks of the heart
medial epicondyle of the humerus cord-like tendon of the biceps head of the ulna bone pisiform bone 5th metacarpal bone distal phalanx (of the little finger)
what are the misc anatomical landmarks
the proximal and distal transverse palmar creases
describe the position of the patient for the heart channel
with the arm outstretched and palm facing up (supine), the elbow straight or slightly bent, rest the arm on a firm surface for comfort and east of marking
describe the position of the acupuncturist for marking the heart channel
directly in front of or to the side of the outstretched arm
name He9
Shaochong - lesser surge
describe He9
radial nail point of the little finger (thumb side)
name He8
Shaofu: lesser treasury
describe He8
on the palm between the 4/5 MC bones at the start of the flare of the head of the 5MC bone.
ulnar edge of of the bone till you feel the flare of the %th MC slide across to the palm
between the proximal and distal transverse palmar creases
name He 7
Shenmen : Shen gate
describe He7
proximal radial corner of the pisiform - in the depression radial to the tendon
ask client to slowly raise and lower hand to display tendon (flexor carpi ulnaris) - the He channel is in the depression just radial to this tendon
easy method: proximal corner of pisiform bone on ulnar edge of arm and roll over to radial side of bone
Name He 6
Yinxi: yin cleft
Describe He6
1/2 cub proximal to He7 in the groove
Name He5
Tongli: connecting street
Describe He5
1 cub proximal to He7 in the groove
Name He4
Lingdao: spirit way
Describe heart 4
1.5 cub proximal to He7 in the groove. Small notch in the tendon .
Name He3
Shaohai: lesser sea
Describe He3
Medial end of elbow crease- elbow flexed - halfway between tendon of the biceps and medial epicondyle of humerus
Bend arm up as far as it will go. Place finger on the medial end of elbow crease. Straighten arm. The point lies in the centre of the dip
