6
Q

This is a long thin muscle running from the inferomedial pubis to the tibial shaft below the medial tibial condyle. Together with the adductor magnus they adduct the hip.

7
Q

Originates near the ASIS and inserts on the iliotibial band and the head of the fibula. It abducts, flexes and medially rotates the thigh.

8
Q

Originates at the bodies of T12-L5 and inserts on the lesser trochanter. Primarily it aids in hip flexion, but it also works to support the spine in upright posture.

A

Psoas Major

9
Q

Originates from the entire internal iliac fossa (fossa is any depressed or hollowed area) and inserts on the lesser trochanter via the same tendon as the psoas major. Primarily it aids in hip flexion. (It also aids in anteversion when the femur is fixed)

A

Iliacus

10
Q

This is the largest muscle in the body and along with adipose tissue make up the buttocks. It originates from the posteriolateral sacrum and posterior ilium and inserts on the shaft of the femur. It acts primarily as a hip extensor
(Tendu in arabesque) and to laterally rotate the hip (turnout)

A

Gluteus Maximus

11
Q

Originates at the anterior inferior iliac spine and part of the ilium near the acetabulum and inserts onto the quadriceps tendon. It is superficial to the vasti and unlike the other quadriceps it crosses the hip as well as the knee making it is the only quadriceps muscle that is a primary hip flexor.

A

Rectus femoris

12
Q

Is the longest muscle in the body with its origin at the ASIS and the insertion superomedial shaft of the tibia. It flexes, abducts and laterally rotates the hip.
In dance we call the Sartorius the posse muscle. It is often called the Tailor muscle (as tailors would sit cross legged on the floor in past history) because it flexes, abducts and laterally rotates the hip.
The three hamstring muscles are: semimembranosis, semitendinosis, biceps femoris
