The human body Flashcards
(28 cards)
Plasma
90% water carries platelets and red and white blood cells carries dissolved substances 10% eg glucose protein urea
Haemoglobin
In red blood cells carry’s oxygen
Aorta
Artery in the heart
Vena cava
A vein going into the heart
Septum
Separates the left ventricle to the right ventricle
Atria
The upper chamber in the heart the word atrium comes from the Latin word entry hall
Ventricles
Separate the cuspid valves and is located under the atrium
Pulmonary artery
is an artery in the pulmonary circulation that carries deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs.
Pulse
The pulse is the echo of the heart beat you can hear it under chin and wrist
Oxygenated blood
Blood rich in oxygen that comes from the lungs.
Deoxygenated blood
Blood that comes from other parts of the body that has less oxygenated , and more carbon dioxide. It must go to the lungs to get more oxygen.
Ingestion
the process of taking food, drink, or another substance into the body by swallowing or absorbing it.
Digestion
the process of digesting food.
Absorption
is a condition in which something takes in another substance. In many processes important in technology, the chemical absorption is used in place of the physical process,
Assimilation
the food is used by the body for energy and to build new cells
Egestion
undigested food material is released from the digestive system as faeces
Enzymes
act on a substrate and breaks it down into a product most chemical digestion happens in the small intestine
Example of substrate =starch
Mouth
Physical digestion
Oesophagus
Brings food from mouth to stomach
Liver
Makes bile
Stomach
Physical and chemical digestion
Pancreas
Makes digestive juices
Small intestine
Most chemical digestion
Large intestine
Water reabsorption
