What park is Amir in at the beginning and how does it flow into the rest of the novel?
In the beginning Amir is in the golden gate park and he sees a kite which reminds him of his past and leads to the retelling of his life up to this point.
Who does Assef admire and how does this foreshadow later events?
Assef admires Adolf Hitler and his extremist ideology which foreshadows his later partake in the Taliban and violence he implores on sohrab
What does baba represent?
Baba represents the two sides to Afghan society , on one side he demonstrates the marginalised culture through religious prejudice filled with deep guilt and shame , but he also represents the side of deep repentance and atonement for his sins, giving and helping what he took from his culture.
How is guilt and redemption shown throughout the play?
We see this idea of guilt and redemption through Amir’s narrative from the event in 1975 up until the current moment where gets to restart with sohrab and atone his past sins.
How is Hassan portrayed in the kite runner?
Hassan is a loyal character, brave and selfless in his actions , highlighted in his words “For you a thousand times over.”
What is symbolic of the kite?
The kite represents innocence, betrayal, guilt, and eventually redemption and freedom
How is a hierarchy shown in The kite runner?
In the kite runner Pashtun’s hold power and Hazara’s are powerless and are submissive.
Why does Amir want to prove his worthiness?
Amir wanted to prove his worthiness through winning the kite running tournament , he does so because he is constantly in battle with Hassan over Baba’s approval and he seeks to get praise fuffiling an empty part in him.
Afghanistan vs America
Afghanistan is traditional having things like hierachies and secrets within its power however America is liberal having freedom, this idea of a new identity but also cultural disconnection.
How does the play end?
The play ends with a sense of hope , with Amir who takes sohrab to kite run , this is a pivitol moment which symbolises healing and the beginning of a new hopeful chapter , showing the path to redemption is open , and now is the moment for Amir to become better
