explain facts about the Korean war
A
- In 1950 the communist north invaded the capitalist south
- Both sides gained and lost control of Seoul as different points
- Air battles took place between USA and Soviet planes
- Numerous land battles took place such as the Battle of Bloody Ridge
- A huge number of civilians died
- The war ended in 1953 by dividing the country across the 38th parallel

what domestic pressures did Kennedy face during his presidency
A
- Kennedy had to ensure the US kept an advantage in the arms race
- He had to handle the economic crisis and try to tackle unemployment
- Senotart put pressure on him to help end the advantage the Soviet Union had in the space race
- Growing civil rights campaigns urged him to take action against racism in America
- To stimulate the economy Kennedy pursued legislation to lower taxes, protect the unemployed and increase the minimum wage
- When 4 children were killed in 1963 in a racially motivated bombing of a church in Birmingham Alabama Kennedy chose to intervene

what domestic pressures did Kruschev face during his time in power
A
- Khrushchev came to power in 1955 and claimed he would bring more civil liberties and an end to fear in the Soviet Union.
- Started a policy of De-Stalinization at the 20th party conference.
- He criticised Stalin’s regime and promised to reform the country from the damage he had caused.
- Khrushchev announced that there were different ways to achieve communism within a country.
- He criticised Stalin’s purges, persecution of enemies and fear that he had created.
- Kruschev was able to show how powerful the Soviet Union was especially how heavily they controlled Eastern Europe. (e.g Hungary).
