The Nature of Development (1.2) Flashcards
(6 cards)
Nature
an organism’s biological influences
(humans development happens in an order)
Nurture
an organism’s environmental experiences
(one can experience anything from biological (well-being: nutrition, medical care, etc) to social (influencers-peers, family, school, etc)
Continuity
development is a gradual and cumulative change
(puberty because it happens over years)
Discontinuity
development involves abrupt, distinct stages
thinking abstractly: going from not being able to do something to being able to do it
Stability
we become older versions of our early experiences
a shy child becomes a shy adult
Change
we develop into someone different ( because of a later experience) compared to who we were earlier in development
(a shy child becomes an outgoing, open adult because of some later experience that brought her out of her shell)
