What does “monotheism” mean?
Belief in one God.
What is “polytheism”?
Belief in many gods.
What does “transcendent” mean?
God is beyond and outside the world; not limited by time or space.
What does “immanent” mean?
God is present and active within the world and human lives.
What does “omnipotent” mean?
All-powerful.
What does “omniscient” mean?
All-knowing.
What does “omnipresent” mean?
Present everywhere at all times.
What does “omnibenevolent” mean?
All-loving or perfectly good.
What does it mean to say God is “unknowable”?
That humans cannot fully understand or describe God.
What does “knowable” mean in relation to God?
That humans can know something about God through revelation or experience.
Why do some Christians describe God using personal language?
To express a close relationship with God, like a parent or friend.
Why do some Christians avoid using personal images of God?
Because God is beyond human understanding and form (transcendent).
Why might it be considered wrong to make images of God?
It may break the second commandment: “You shall not make for yourself an idol.”
What is the Trinity in Christianity?
One God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Give one reason Christians believe God is omnibenevolent.
Because of His love shown in sending Jesus to save humanity.
What is a key difference between monotheistic and polytheistic religions?
Monotheistic religions believe in one God (e.g., Christianity); polytheistic religions believe in many gods (e.g., Hinduism).
Why do some religions describe God as both immanent and transcendent?
To show that God is active in the world but also beyond human understanding.
