(19 cards)
Bias
a particular tendency, or opinion, that is preconceived or unreasoned
Constant
a value that does not change when other values change
Control
A standard by which the tests are compared
Density
mass of a unit volume of a material substance
Dependent Variable
A variable whose value is determined by the value of an independent variable.
Experiment
A test or procedure used to determine the validity of a hypothesis or make a discovery.
Graph
A diagram showing the relationship of how one quantity depends on or changes with another.
Hypothesis
A statement/educated guess for a possible experiment to confirm its viability.
Independent Variable
a variable whose value determines the value of other variables.
Mass
A measure of the amount of matter contained in a physical body.
Model
A description of an object or phenomenon that is based off of the object or phenomenon
Scientific Law
the description of an observed phenomenon.
Scientific Method
a method of research in which a problem is identified, relevant data are gathered, a hypothesis is formulated and the hypothesis is tested.
Standard
an object or experiment that defines the unit of a physical quantity.
Technology
the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry.
Scientific Theory
a carefully thought explanation for observations of the natural world using the scientific method
The explanation of a phenomenon
Variable
A factor or condition that is subject to change, in a scientific experiment to test a hypothesis.
Volume
The amount of space occupied by a three-dimensional object or region of space. Volumes are expressed in cubic units.
SI
The symbol for silicon.
