Society divided into classes according to family background ,wealth and occupation.It was difficult to change one’s social status

- had a lot of wealth,land,servants and slaves
- were the few people who could read and write
- nobles and officials helped the pharaoh rule the country
- many men from this class joined the army

- Farmers,craftsmen,musicians,fishermen and merchants belonged to this class.
- had to pay taxes and worked for the country,such as working on water projects or building pyramids
- most of the commoners were commoners.They had a lower status than craftsmen and merchants.
