What is the eatwell plate?
A healthy eating model, to encourage people to eat the correct proportions of food to achieve a balanced diet
What are the 8 guidelines for a healthy diet?
Base your meals on starchy foods Eat lots of fruit and vegetables Eat more fish Cut down on saturated fat and sugars No more than 6g of salt a day Get active and try to be a healthy weight Drink plenty of water Don't skip breakfast

What is the function of dietary fibre?
Function of the digestive system

What is the effect of type 2 diabetes?
Diabetics need a healthy diet and have to control sugar intake. Diabetes develops when the body cannot use glucose properly. People with diabetes need to maintain a healthy weight and eat a healthy diet
What is coeliac disease?
This is an intolerance to the protein gluten (found in wheat, barley + rye)
What is a calorie controlled diet?
The general guidelines for people on a calorie controlled diet are to eat more starchy foods and cut down on fat and high sugar foods
What is does lactose intolerant mean?
People with lactose intolerance cannot digest the milk sugar, lactose. Cow’s milk must be avoided but cheese, yoghurt and soya milk can be eaten
What is a lacto vegetarian?
NADA: Meat, fish, poultry, eggs
What is a lacto ovo vegetarian?
NADA: Meat, fish, poultry
What is a vegan?
NADA: Any animal products e.g. milk, cheese
Sources of carbohydrates (sugar + starch)?
Sugar, honey, jam
Potatoes, pasta, rice
Sources of fat?
Butter, cheese, oily fish, meat
Sources of protein?
Meat, fish, milk, eggs, cheese, lentils, soya, nuts…

Liver, eggs, butter, orange + yellow vegetables
