Q

The provisional Govt. - Evaluation

A

In evaluation, the provisional Govt. was important as it created the right opportunities for the Bolsheviks to seize power. Indeed, the results for the Russian constituent assembly shows the Bolsheviks weren’t all that popular. As such they only received 23.5% of the votes and so suggesting that people only went along with the October revolution in order to overthrow the provisional Govt.

Q

The Bolsheviks - Analysis +

A

Indeed the July days show that the October revolution succeeded more due to the failures of the provisional Govt. rather than the popularity of the Bolsheviks. As revolt was crushed by the P.G, it shows the they were still reasonably strong in July.

Q

The Bolsheviks - Evaluation

A

In evaluation, by the time October came around, the right climate of discontent enabled the Bolsheviks to seize power. The provisional Govt.s decision to remain in the war increased discontent and the Bolshevik promise of “Bread, peace and land” was seen as the only way out. so support to overthrow the P.G increased.

Q

War Related Discontent - A+

A

discontent amongst workers and peasants was not the only reason as working class discontent had been growing and the strains of WW1 exacerbated the situation to such an extent that workers and peasants turned to the Bolsheviks in hope of change.

Q

War Related Discontent - Evaluation

A

it is clear that additional strains of WW1 was important in causing the October revolution. However had the P.G been able to cope effectively with the problems caused by WW1 it is fair to say they may not have been overthrown in 1917. Therefore the weaknesses of the P.G allowed the problems to persist which encouraged a feeling of anti-P.G to grow amongst workers and peasants.
