The Origin of Mindfulness
The origins of mindfulness are rooted in Buddhist tradition and traditionally was a form of meditation. The techniques that are practiced today and that we will learn and practice in this course are based on the Buddhist Vipassana meditation practices.
Breath Awareness Meditation
Breath awareness meditation is one of the most fundamental types of meditation in mindfulness and it is simply being attentive to your breathing while seated lying down or standing.
Body Scan Meditation
Body scan meditation is another meditation that is used in mindfulness. In this meditation, you lie down and intentionally bring your awareness to different areas of your body.
Loving Kindness Meditation
Loving kindness meditation is another practice used in mindfulness practice. In this meditation practice, you direct kind thoughts to people you know. These people could include loved ones, strangers, and even adversaries to cultivate empathy and compassion towards them.
