What is blasphemy?
Speaking against god or making yourself equal to god
What is a miracle?
When God does something that breaks the laws of science
What is a sin?
Breaking god’s law and therefore separating your self from him
Where was Jesus?
Jesus was at Capernaum
Why could the four men not get near Jesus?
Because the crowd was so big
What were the four men carrying?
A paralysed man
What did they do to get to Jesus?
They climbed onto the roof and dug a hole in it and the. Lowered the man down through the roof to Jesus
What did Jesus do?
He was impressed by the faith of the four friends and he told the man that his sins were forgiven
What did the lawyers present say to Jesus after he had forgiven the paralysed man’s sins?
The lawyers said that only God could forgive sins and therefore Jesus was committing blasphemy by forgiving the paralysed man
How did Jesus respond to the accusation that he was no god and therefore he could not forgive sins?
Jesus told them that healing people was the same thing as forgiving sins and that the SON OF MAN had the authority to do this
How did Jesus refer to himself in this story?
Jesus called himself ‘the son of man’
What did Jesus do after he had argued with the lawyers and told them that he was not committing blasphemy because healing and forgiving were the same thing?
Jesus told the paralysed man to pick up his mat and go home. In other words he healed him
How did the crowd react when Jesus healed the paralysed man even though lawyers had accused him of blasphemy?
They were amazed and the lawyers could not answer him back

God works every day and miracles happen all around us
On the other hand, science can explain a lot and we no longer think that illness is because of sin. Doctors today would be seen as miracle workers in the old days.
