A

The numbers going across (e.g. group 1 would be lithium, sodium etc)

What is a period in the periodic table?

A

The lines going across (e.g. period 3 would be sodium, magnesium etc)

How can you identify an element as a non-metal or metal based upon its location in the Periodic Table and from experiments?

A

Elements to the left of the line are considered metals, elements to the far right of the periodic table are considered non-metals. Elements in between are both metals and non-metals

How can you tell if an element is a non-metal or metal from an experiment?

A

Use an electrical circuit with a bulb. If the bulb lights, the element is a conductor and therefore a metal
