Prime minister is appointed by the President and other ministers are appointed or dismissed by the President on the advice of Prime Minister.

a) Cabinet Minister
b) Minister of state
c) Deputy minister

Working of the union
A
As the head of the Council of ministers the prime minister is the head of the government. He is the leader of his party.
The PM enjoys large power of patronage. All the ministers are appointed at his or her recommendation and stand dismissed at his or her demand.
The PM a lots work among the ministers. He can change their portfolios at will.
The PM is the channel of communication between the Council of ministers in the President.
