Reaction Rates

A
  • The rate of all chemical reactions depends on the reactant concentrations
  • Reaction rate, or velocity, is defined as the amount of product produced per unit time in mols or mols/liter
  • The reaction velocity can be determined by multiplying the molar concentration of reactant(s) by the “rate constant” for that reaction
  • The rate constant is designated with a lower case k, and is a physical constant for that reaction that describes how rapidly it will proceed
