The Pull Flashcards
(18 cards)
What is a ‘pull’ in the context of the game?
A throw by the defence that commences play after a score, at half-time, or at the start of the game.
What must teams do before executing a pull?
Teams must signal their readiness by having the puller and an offensive player raise a hand above their head.
Where must offensive players stand before a pull is released?
With one foot on their defending goal line, without changing location relative to one another.
Where must defensive players be positioned before a pull is released?
Behind the vertical plane of the goal line.
What happens if a team breaches the rules of a pull?
The opposing team may call a violation before the offence touches the disc.
What is a ‘false start’ in the context of a pull?
When offensive players move before the pull is released.
What is ‘offside’ in the context of a pull?
When defensive players cross the vertical plane of the goal line before the pull is released.
What must happen if the defence calls a false start?
The thrower must establish a pivot point and play restarts as if a time-out had been called.
What happens if the offence calls offside?
The disc must hit the ground untouched, and play resumes as if a brick has been called.
What occurs as soon as the pull is released?
All players may move in any direction.
Can a defensive player touch the disc after a pull is released?
No, until a member of the offensive team contacts the disc or it hits the ground.
What is a ‘dropped pull’?
When an offensive player touches the disc before it hits the ground, and the team fails to establish possession.
Where must an offensive player establish a pivot point if they catch the pull?
At the location on the playing field nearest to where possession is established.
What happens if the disc initially contacts the playing field and never becomes out-of-bounds?
The thrower must establish a pivot point where the disc stops.
What must the thrower do if the disc becomes out-of-bounds without contacting an offensive player?
Establish a pivot point where the disc first crossed the perimeter line.
What if the disc contacts an offensive player before going out-of-bounds?
The thrower must establish a pivot point where the disc first crossed the perimeter line.
What can a thrower do if the disc contacts the out-of-bounds area without touching the playing field?
Establish a pivot point at the nearest brick mark or the location closest to where the disc went out-of-bounds.
What must be done to signal the binding brick option?
Any offensive player must fully extend one arm overhead and call ‘brick’.
