Theory of Intermingling.

According to some historians Rajputs were the deecendents of various groups of foreign invaders such as Shakas, the Kushnas, the Hunas, who had settled down inn the region of Rajasthan and, after intermingling with Indian society, emerged as a warrior class.

This theory says that the Rajputs are descendents of the races like Sakas, Kushanas, Hunas etc. Dr. VA Smith, Col. James Todd. William Crooks supported this theory. The main argument of James Todd behind the foreign origin of the Rajputs was that these people worshipped Fire and Fire was the main deity of the Sakas and Hunas.

Kshatriya Varna Theory.

Scholars like B.D. Chattopadhyaya consider that the Rajput clan emerged due to multiple factors like the expansion of the agrarian economy. The distribution of land among royal kinsmen allowed many local chiefs to accquire enough financial and political power to establish an independent political authority. Hence, these prevaling condition in the early medival period led to the emergence of independent political authority called the Rajputs.

How did the Rajputs got the legitimacy to rule?

They invited Brahamans to perform various sacrifices and rituals.
They also asked Brahmans to Rajput’s illistrious ancestory, they linked then to lord Rama and Lord Krishna, hence they clamied a dignified position among the warroir classes.

Certain clans clamied Agnikula origins for themselves, referring to a myth wherein these clans emerged out of the sacrifical fire of sage Vashishta on Mt. Abu. Four Agnikula Rajputs were: [PPCC]

This theory comes from the Prithvirajraso of Chandarbardai. According to this theory, Rajputs were the result of Yagya performed by Hrishi Vashistha at “Guru Shikhar” in Mount Abu. Muhnot Nainsi & Suryamal Mishran also support this theory.
