He held a court and many nobles stayed away
He decided to tackle the rebellion head on and headed straight for the centre of it all at Rochester castle where Odo was planning

A
- his aggression worked and he captured Rochester castle aswell as Odo
- this brought a swift end to a potentially deadly rebellion
- he was helped by the fact that Robert had not left Normandy and invaded England as previously planned

He knew a harsh punishment could make him unpopular and therefore cause more rebellions so he won them over
