What is the definition of renaissance?
The rebirth of European interest in the civilisations of Ancient Greece and Rome. During this period, people began to question old ideas from the Middle Ages and develop new ideas about art , architecture , science , literature and medicine.
What is the definition of humanism?
A shift in mindset from a focus on god to a focus on human knowledge
What is the definition of patron?
A wealthy person who commissioned (hired) an artist to produce a work of art for then.
What is the definition of perspective ?
The creation of depth and distance in a painting
What is the definition anatomy ?
The study of the structure of the human body
What is the definition of movable printing press?
A method of printing books that placed individual metal letters into a frame to form words , coated them with ink and pressed the frame onto paper
What is the definition of heresy?
Knowingly holding a view that went against the official teachings of the Catholic Church
Who were The de Medici of Florence?
The de Medici of Florence were among the most important families of art patrons especially cosimo de Medici and his grandad lorenzo. They sponsored artists and architects , opened schools for the study of Roma and Greek manuscripts and established an academy for sculptors in their own palace.

What were the problems of sea travel?
Ships could not navigate accurately, often ending up very far from where they had planned to go
Many sailors were afraid of the unknown. Some believed that the earth was flat and they would sail off the edge if they went too far. Others believed that the seas were full of monsters

The influence of the renaissance - people were eager to learn and were questioning their existing beliefs

What does conquistadores mean?
Spanish for ‘conquerors’ - soldiers who would conquer indigenous American civilisations such as the Aztecs and the Incas
Who were the Aztecs?
The Aztecs came from the south of modern-day Mexico. They conquered rival tries and by the 1420s their empire covered cereal Mexico. The Aztecs had a complex society. Their weapons and tools were made from wood, stone or copper. For meant,the Aztecs ate turkeys, dogs and guinea pigs.the Aztecs worshipped many gods.
