The Reproductive System Flashcards
(11 cards)
Fertilization
A 1n sperm fused with a 1n ovum producing a 2n zygote which has 46 chromosomes many mitosis divisions results in an adult human with billions of 2n cells each have 46 chromosomes half from mom half from dad
The human life cycle
Sexual reproduction, adult are diploid 2n, two sets of twenty three chromosomes, meiosis in gonads produced haploid 1n, gametes eggs and sperm each have one set of 23 chromosomes
The male reproductive system
Testes are the gonads which produce sperm, epididymis is where the sperm mature and are stored until ejacjulation, vas deferents transport sperm to ejaculatory duct and then the urethra and out of the body
The path of sperm
Testes to the epididymis to the vas deferens to the ejaculatory duct to the urethra and out of the penis
Luteinizing hormone
Oh from the anterior pituitary includes leydig cells to produce testosterone
Follicle stimulating hormone
From anterior pituitary gland induces sertoli nurse cells to make receptors for testosterone
Testosterone
Produces sperm, sex drive and secondary sexual characteristics
The female reproduction system
The ovaries are the gonads that produce the female gametes, the oviducts are the site of fertilization and transport early embryo to uterus, the uterus is the site of implantation of the embryo and development if the fetus the vagina is the receive the penis during sex
Ovulation
Is the release of the secondary oocyte usually 1 per month from puberty to menopause
What is the path an ovum takes from ovary to uterus?
Oto genesis to ovulation to corpus luteum
Where does fertilization occur?
Embryo to human chorionic gonadotropin corpus luteum maintained endometrium maintained
