- Had nationalist and socialist elements such as expanding Germany’s power and giving rights to workers.

When did Hitler become the leader of the NSDAP (Nazi Party)
January 1922
Munich Putsch
- Bavarian government met in beer hall in Munich.
- Hitler burst in with 600 SA members and declared he would take over the Weimar Republic. He forced Seisser, von Kahr and Lossow to support him.
- As this happened Rohm took over the local police using the SA.
- Hitler made a huge mistake by leaving the Beer Hall in the hands of Ludendorff. When he came back he found that Seisser, Kahr and Lossow had left the Beer Hall and withdrew their support.
- At midday the next day, Hitler decided to continue with the revolt with 1000 SA and about 2000 volunteers.
- They were shot down by the state policemen and arrested. 14 Nazis had died, and 4 policemen had lost their lives.
- During his trial, in 1924, Hitler was able deliver an astonishing speech about his views that resonated with the German public, thanks to the Nationalist sympathiser Judge who had been in charge of the trial.
Consequences of the Munich Putsch
- He became a national celebrity even during his time in prison and gained many more supporters
- During his time in prison he wrote an autobiography ‘Mein Kampf’ (My Struggles) which highlighted his passion for leading Germany and his strong views.
- He learnt something really important, which was that power must be obtained through following legal measures and not violence.
1923 Hyperinflation
a period of extremely rapid and uncontrollable price increases. This was largely caused by the German government printing excessive amounts of money to pay reparations to Allied nations after World War I.
Bamberg Conference
Held in February 1926. It was called to address a growing ideological split between the northern and southern factions of the party, and it ultimately solidified Hitler’s authority and shifted the party’s focus towards nationalism.
Enabling Act 1933
In March Hitler passes a law that enables him to pass laws without parliament.
