What was a “Whig”?
Patriots that believed that they should be allowed to govern themselves
What was a “Torie”?
Also known as Loyalists, who desired the rights of a British citizen but were LOYAL to the British
What was the Stamp Act?
A tax imposed on all printed such as newspapers and legal documents
What was the Quartering Act of 1765?
The first Quartering Act that stated colonists had to provide housing and food for soliders stationed there
What was the Townshend Act?
The tax on imported goods such as glass, tea, and paper
What were the Intolerable Acts?
(1773)

A professional solider hired to fight for a foreign army, loyal to whoever pays the most
What does rapacious mean?
A person who is aggressively greedy or grasping predatory or potentially violent for personal desires
Who were the Hessian Soldiers?
German soldiers hired by Britain to help during the revolution known as rapacious mercenaries
