A

A patrician was a ranking in the social classes of Ancient Rome. Patricians were ranked right below the emperor and his family, they were leaders in politics, they were wealthy land owners, provided the military, and religion. These people lived in luxury.

Vaults and Arches are a type of roman architecture arches were a huge part of roman history, arches were everywhere especially in their colosseums. Vaults were dome like passage ways that normally lead to the basements of the colosseums where the animals, gladiators, and slaves were kept.

It is a term that means a person who lacks elegance, knowledge, of artistic or literary culture or otherwise known as “men with beards.” They trained men to be apart of the Roman empire for free thus the Roman army was mostly Barbarians.

A

The Visigoths are another Germanic tribe that fought the Roman Empire for centuries.They went and sought help from the romans for protection of the Huns but they were treated as conquered people and were enraged.

Who is Alaric?

A

Alaric is the king of the Visigoths who ruled from 395-420 CE. Alaric wanted peace between the Romans but when the Romans refused to give part of the river and he was turned down for becoming emperor thus he proclaimed a battle.

The Huns were a group of nomadic people from central Asia who invaded southeastern Europe around 370, and by the middle of the 400s they had built an empire in southeastern and central Europe, they were able to pack up and leave in one day without leaving anything behind.

A

Taxes were used by the Romans to collect money from the Roman citizens to provide enough money for the bribes that the emperor was giving the Germanic tribes at the border. Due to taxes roman citizens were miserable.

A

During the 200s CE the Goths sacked and raided Roman provinces in Asia minor and the Balkan peninsula. In the late 400s they established the Gothic kingdom of Italy under their king Theodoric the Great.

A

This battle took place on August 9,378; this was an important battle because for the first time Germanic invaders had made significant advances into Roman territory. This was a battle between the Goths and the Romans the Goths won killing 40,000 Romans

A

In 324 CE the emperor Constantine I took control of the eastern or Byzantine and western empires. Constantine made Byzantium the capitol, abandoning Rome as the seat of political power, and renamed it Constantinople.
