American Revolution
First forms of government/ AOC was a weak central government, only legislative body. Constitution established a strong central government with 3 branches (legislative/ executive/ judicial)
Articles of Confederation & Constitution
Federalist (big central govt) v Anti-Federalist (democratic-republicans, strong state govts)
Beginning to expand (Louisiana Purchase) and establish precedents on how to do things
Early US
Manifest Destiny (God given right to take land all the way to the Pacific)/ get the rest of America through wars, treaties and purchases
Westward Expansion
Before War/ increase of Sectionalism between North and South over slavery and states’ rights
Antebellum America
North v South
Civil War
Rebuilding the Union/ accepting South back into the Union while figuring out how to expand rights to freedom slaves (13th, 14th, and 15th Amendment)
Reconstruction
Rise of industry (really rich Robber Barons) and all the problems that come with it (child labor, working conditions, unions)
Gilded Age
Fixing all the issues of the Gilded Age
Progressive Era
Taking all of our progressive ideas to other territories around the world/ America emerges as a world power
Imperialism
Fought because of increases in Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism. US tried to stay isolated as long as possible
WWI
Thankful the war is over, time of (fake) wealth, partying and rise of American culture
Roaring 20s
The fake wealth of the 20s all came crashing down
Great Depression
America abandons its Isolationist policies/ got us out of the Depression
WWII
Democracy v Communism (US v Soviets)/ over the nuclear weapons
Cold War
African Americans fight for complete rights as citizens
Civil Rights
Rise of wealth in America (“Greed is good”)/ Reaganomics
