1764.
What did Grenville do to reduce leniency?
By 1763, colonial custom officials now had to live in America (intended to reduce smuggling).
Describe the Sugar Act.
. Reduced the tax to be paid on foreign molasses.
. Reduced from 6d to 3d.
. Also extended the tax to cover other items.
What other items was the Sugar Act extended to cover?
Sugar, wine, silk, coffe.
Why was the Sugar Act different?
It was to be more rigorously enforced than before. Any official accepting a bribe would face a £500 fine and disqualification from the post.
How much would this tax create?
Grenville advised that it would make £78,000 per year by the Board of Customs commissioners.
Where would the Sugar Act affect?
New England.
Why would the Sugar Act get more money despite it reducing tax?
More highly enforced- the money that the gov got would increase as a result.
