Q

What temperature are most sunsets and incandescent light bulbs?

A

2,500-3,500 - This doesn’t mean we would want to white balance at this temperature however. Doing so would make things far to blue.

Q

Do you always want to have perfect white balance?

A

No, are eyes don’t always see perfect whites and the director may want to have the white balance off to help convey a certain emotion or match what are eyes would realistically see (making things more orange for example during sunset).

Q

What is a general rule of thumb for determining what your white balance setting should be?

A

The setting that conveys what your eyes are seeing in that moment. Unless you want to cheat the image to make a shot look more like sunset for example by making it more orange.

Q

What should your white-balance be when you have two different color temperatures of light like daylight and stung?

A

16
Q

Is it important to get the color right in camera?

A

Yes, because editing software can only manipulate your image so far before it starts to fall apart (especially when shooting non RAW video). Better in camera color = better color in your finished product.

17
Q

What does the “Color Tone” setting in the Picture Profile menu options effect?

A

The ting of your image. Having it low makes the image more red. Having it high makes the image more green.

18
Q

What is Devin Graham picture profile he shared with Parker?

A

Sharpness at 0, contrast -1, saturation +1, and Color Tone +1. This style is great for videos that you want to be happy and vibrant.

19
Q

What are the picture profile settings for Cinestyle?

A

Sharpness at 0, Contrast 0, Saturation -2, Color Tone Neutral. This is style is ideal for directors that are really proficient with color correction or want a specific color style they can’t achieve in camera.

20
Q

What is frame rate?

A

The number of still frames or images your camera takes per second. With these still images played back to back in a second, it creates the illusion of motion picture.

21
Q

What frame rate does Parker like to use when shooting real estate or drone footage/

A

Varies by project, but he recommends 30 fps so you can slow it down to 23.976 in posts for a slight bit of slow motion and smoother footage.

22
Q

What setting should you have your in camera audio?

A

+1 (almost nothing). Only boost it if needed. You want the levels to sit between -18 and -6.

23
Q

What is the optimal distance to have the microphone from your talents mouth?

A

6-14inches

24
Q

Should a directional mic (like a shotgun mic) be pointed directly at the mouth or just below it?

A

Just below so you are not picking up smacking sounds or it being to harsh. Unless you deliberately want that.

25
Q

Should a directional mic (like a shotgun mic) be pointed directly at the mouth or just below it?

A

Just below so you are not picking up smacking sounds or it being to harsh. Unless you deliberately want that.

26
Q

What are the proper sensitivity settings for your Senheiser G4 lav mic?

A

-30db for the transmitter (the one with the lav mic attached).

And 0db for the receiver (plugged into your camera or audio device).

27
Q

What are some options for placing lav mics?

A

On top of the shirt 6-8 inches away from the mouth.
Underneath the shirt taped (the shirt not touching the skin, the shirt above that one so the tape doesn’t fall off because of sweat).

28
Q

What are the 4 keys to smooth Glidecam shots?

A
  1. Good Balance.
  2. Lens Choice.
  3. The Off Hand.
  4. The Way You Walk
29
Q

Are wide or telephoto lenses easier to get smooth shots with, when using a Glidecam?

A

Wide lenses. The mistakes are much harder to see with so much movement in the frame.
Telephoto lenses require a higher skill level.

30
Q

What is the purpose of the off-hand when Glidecaming?

A

To counter the gamble’s movement to create smoother shots.
The key is to apply the least amount of pressure possible with the off hand.
Sometimes this means you are just tapping it.

31
Q

Where should your off-hand be when Glidecaming?

A

The part of the shaft that is right below the gimble.

32
Q

When glidecaming what parts of your body are used for shock absorption?

A

Specifically the arm holding the Glidecam and your legs.
You want the arms to stay at the same level even if the terrain is changing level.

You want to squat while walking with the intention of absorbing the impact of your steps smoothly while also going heel to toe.

The purpose of all this is to eliminate the slight bounce you get walking normally. You want your in camera horizon to stay the same not moving vertically up or down (unless the type of shot requires this).

33
Q

What is an APS-C camera?

A

Advance Photo System Type C

It is a smaller sensor size with a 3:2 aspect ratio. Some lenses won’t work on cameras with and APS-C sensor.
