Intro
Theft Act 1967 - a person is guilty of theft if they dishonestly appropriates property belonging t another .
AR - Appropriation
Where the defendant has come by it without stealing it
-** removes the need for proving it was done without consent
- also protects vulnerable people**
R v Morris
The defendant switched the price of an item in a shop which was deemed as appropriation
Lawrence v MPC
Taxi driver took the appropriate fare from a passenger which was deemed appropriation even with consent
Property
Includes money and any other properties
Oxford v Moss
Student stole an exam paper which was deemed as information rather than property
- illegal property can also be stolen
R v Smith
Stealing drugs from a drug dealer was deemed theft as it includes illegal property

Man stole his own vehicle by removing it from a garage without paying for parts and services

Man collected money for a trip but lost in in his company collapsing which was deemed as theft
Permanently deprive
R v Velumyl - man took money from his boss with the intention of returning it soon after
- seems quite strict as he was going to pay it back
