-forbidden to kill or injure an enemy or surrenders
-captured combats/civilians are entitled to respect, dignity, personal rights and beliefs.
-no one subjected to physical or mental torture
-prohibited to employ weapons or methods of warfare of a nature to cause unnecessary losses + excessive torture
