Through Baptism, we become members of the Church. We become members that share the mission of the Good News. We are plunged into death and rise in new life in Christ. Baptism cleanses us of Original Sin. It renewsus in Jesus Christ.

Original Sin
the sin of the first man and woman, who disobeyed God’s command by choosing to follow their own will and so lost their original holiness and became subject to death, which is passed on to us.

Describe the prefigurement of Baptism from the Old Testament.
The Jordon River was the prefigurement of Baptism. The Israelites had to cross it in order to reach the Promised Land. In the same river, John the Baptist baptized sinners.
The Israelites passed through the Red Sea to freedom. This foreshadows how we pass through water in Baptism to freedom from Original Sin.

Confirmation
With Baptism and the Eucharist, one of the three Sacraments of Christian Initiation. Through the outpouring of the special gifts of the Holy Spirit, Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism by confirming or “sealing” the baptized person’s union with Christ and by equipping that person for the active participation in the life of the Chruch. Bishop is the ordinary minister of Confirmation.
