What does the situational leadership style approach?
no one size fits all approach
situational dependant
varying levels of leadership and management
Leaders must first identify their most important tasks and priorities
Leaders must then consider the readiness level of their followers by analysis the group ability and willingness
What is the leadership model?
Low willingness, high ability - supporting
High willingness, high ability - delegating
low willingness, low ability - directing
high willingness, low ability - coaching

What is Maslows Hierarchy of Needs?
- Five different levels
First four levels are basic needs to evolve and motivate an individual
Top layer goes above and beyond
Levels Bottom to Top 1. Physiological 2. Safety 3. Love/Belonging 4. Esteem 5. Self - actualisation
What is McGregor’s Theory X and Y?
Theory X - leaders view employees as lazy and unmotivated
- micromanage their employees
- managers tend to blame others for everything
Theory Y - Leaders are self motivating and can be trusted
- open communication
- positive relationships
What is Herzberg’s Hygiene Theory?
- content of a persons job is the primary source of motivation
Hygiene factors reduce dissatisfaction
Motivational Factors make people want to work
What is McClellands Needs Theory?
People are motivated by achievements, affiliation and power
What is the Expectancy Theory?
People choose a specific behaviour based on their expectations of the intended result
