Social/ play development
Tina Bruce:
Children do not learn from play but will practice what they love learned in their play
Free flow play: no end goal to the play, is open ended and allows children to play when they want to and play how they want to. Wallow/application = essential of free flow play
12 features of play: use first hand experience, make up rules, able to play alone, pre tend when they play
Language theory
Skinners verbal behaviour theory
Learn through environment by observing what they hear and see and through positive and negative reinforcements and reactions teach them right from wrong when it comes to language
Emotional attachment
Bowlbys theory of attachment: he believes that the earliest bonds formed by children with their caregivers have a huge impact in their life, main,y with their mother. Can from some different forms of attachment
Secure: can regulate emotions easily and trust others and spend time alone and you must respect the child’s attachment
Anxious: hard being alone, clingy, and has fear of rejection so they must communicate well with caregivers
Avoidant: avoid close relationships and lacks trust so you must build a secure relationship and be consistent
Disorganised: high levels of anxiety and is in able to regulate emotions so they must be good a record keeping and build a strong relationship with the child
Cognitive development
Piaget theory of cognitive development: recognises a child intelligence develops in stages and learn by observing and interacting with the world
1. Sensory motor stage 0-2:learn reflexes and reactions objects exist even if they don’t see them, support by using texture books and do sensory experiences to learn about the world
2. Pre-operational stage 2-7: schemas, learning new things, ecocentric, conservation, support by letting children having control of their learning and having long period of play and to observe them
3. Concrete operational stage 7-11:classification, reversibility and decentring, support by practice in reversibility equations doing things for others and make children think
4. Formal operational stage 11+: hypothetical deductive reasoning (what if) support by making children right creatively
