Theory exam Flashcards
(39 cards)
Tyre tread depth
recommended tread depth (winter): 4mm
min tread depth (normal): 1.6 mm
min tread depth (trailer): 1.6 mm
worn tread = less grip = increased breaking distance
Type pressure
correct tyre pressure = save fuel
insufficient tyre pressure = increased fuel consumption + poor road holding
Use of a tyre valve cap
prevents dirt + grime from entering
How should you adjust your driving when aquaplaning
release gas pedal
increase speed (w/ 4 wheel drive)
vehicle fluids
low oil level = severe engine damage
coolant = ensures engine doesnt overheat
windscreen washer fluid
When is APK necessary
diesel car: after 3 years, then annually
petrol cars: after 4 years, inspection valid for 2 years, then annually
What is checked during APK
traffic safety: breaks, lights, tyres, suspension, steering, shock absorbers, bodywork
environment: exhaust emissions
registration: is VIN + mileage correct?
How much spare fuel may you transport?
max 240 litres, divided over a max of 60 litres PER jerry can
Blood alcohol limit
0.2 permille (in breath = 88 micrograms) for novice drivers, otherwise 0.5 per mil (max 220 micrograms)
Consequence for novice drivers w/ alc level 0.5-0.8 per mil?
A LEMA
How long does it take for the body to break down one standard glass of alcohol
1.5 hours
License A or B
A = motorcycle
B = car (max vehicle weight 3500kg)
Trailers up to 750kg license B is enough
Trailers above 750kg u need more than license B
When are u a novice driver vs experienced?
license at 17 = novice for 7 years
license at 18 or older = novice for 5 years
drivers license valid for 10 yrs
DUI penalties
fines up to imprisonment + driving ban of up to 5 yrs
Seatbelt rules
child <1.35m = mandatory child seat
>1.35 = 3 point seat belt mandatory
When should an airbag be deactivated?
if youre travelling rear-facing in a car seat on the front seat
following distance
2 seconds behind someone (IN NORMAL WEATHER)
distance away from car in meters = speed/2 + 10% of that
driving ban vs driving suspension
ban = prohibited to drive
suspension = no longer have a license = can only drive a bicycle
how are aquaplaning and rutting linked
where there is rutting there is a greater chance of aquaplaning and where there is aquaplaning there is a greater chance of rutting
Ranking in traffic controlling mechanisms
Traffic controller instructions
Traffic lights
Traffic signs + priority signs
Traffic rules
Traffic controller stop sign from the front
his left arm is out and he is facing you = traffic from the front (you) must stop everyone else can go
his right arm is out and he is facing you = only those coming from behind him must stop, you and those from the left and right can go
both arms are out = front and back traffic must stop, rest can go
Traffic controller side on
right arm out and turned to his right = traffic coming from the right must stop, everyone else go
arm swiping down = reduce speed
Parking in an erf area:
you can only park in designated areas you cannot park on the side of a road
Erf area and priority:
Leaving an erf area is a special maneuver which means you must give way to ALL traffic (i.e pedestrians and all drivers)
