Q

What is a drug we can use for MS?

A

Ocrelizumab (humanised) - targets CD20 B cells which are involved in production of autoantibodies, pro inflammatory T cells and pro inflammatory cytokines. In MS, autoantibodies cross the BBB and attack the myelin sheath causing damage to the CNS. Ocrelizumab downregulates these autoantibodies via ADCC, apoptosis and cytotoxicity - recently approved by NICE for MS NHS treatment
