3
Q

What is the difference between temperature vs thermal energy/internal energy?

Q

How does thermocouples work

A
  • when the joint between 2 wires is heated,
  • made up of 2 different metals combined into a strip
  • voltage is created (induced) if the temperature at each end is different (since the conduction rate is different)
  • the size of the voltage depends on the difference in temperature

Q

How does thermometer work

A
  • when the alcohol in a thermometer expands
-> it pushes up the capillary tube
  • the distance the liquid moves measures the temperature
